Prof. Mike Morwood's Memorial Service
On September 7, 2013, the University of Wollongong hosted a memorial service to honour the life and legacy of CAS researcher Prof. Mike Morwood, who died in late July. In attendance were Mike's family and both staff and student colleagues from the Mike's extensive and influential career in teaching and research including dignitaries from Indonesian archaeological research institutions.
The service, chaired by Prof. Colin Murray-Wallace, offered a unique cross-section through the life of Mike. Ten speakers chronicled the life of Prof. Morwood; from his days as a student in New Zealand, his early teaching career at the University of New England through to his influential work researching Australian rock art, his work at the University of Wollongong and finally, his discovery of a new species of hominin on the Indonesian island of Flores.
The booklet containing the order of service and list of speakers can be downloaded here (1.6mb)
During the service, a slideshow of images taken throughout Mike's life was shown. That slideshow can be downloaded here (12mb)
A gallery of images taken over the course of the memorial service can be found here (35 images)
